I graduated from the University of Lincoln with a first class honours degree in History in 2016. My undergraduate dissertation was supervised by Dr Michele Vescovi and focused on depictions of identity and ‘otherness’ in the autobiography of Guibert of Nogent, a twelfth-century monk. I am currently undertaking an MA in Medieval Studies at the University of Lincoln thanks to a bursary awarded to me by the School of History and Heritage. This year, I intend to build on the themes addressed in my undergraduate dissertation by exploring the other works of Guibert de Nogent in an attempt to further situate him within his own social, ideological and historical context. Becoming an MA student at the University of Lincoln has given me the opportunity to get more involved with the medieval history community at the University; indeed, I am currently organising the first student-led medieval symposium, entitled ‘Writing Medieval History’, which will run on 5th May 2017.
